GOLF ON THE EDGECliffhangers golf course

The most extraordinary par-3 course on Earth! Created by Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris and his son John Paul, Cliffhangers dangles on a steep hillside adjacent to Payne’s Valley with 18 holes ranging from 60 to 170 yards. The adventure course features dramatic elevation changes, breathtaking views, and holes meticulously carved into the region's iconic limestone cliffs and flowing creeks.

HOLE-BY-HOLE

Hole 1 "Horizons" · 65 Yards

This downhill hole can be reached by a short wedge shot, but the designers Johnny & JP Morris intended for players to putt down the slalom of grass to the green rather than trying to carry a shot in the air. Two pins are cut to give golfers a chance to putt and hit a shot here.

Hole 2 "Cascades" · 83 Yards

Admire the waterfalls cascading from your left, but make sure to avoid them on your shot. A bunker also guards the hole short right.

Hole 3 "LION'S DEN" · 115 Yards

Unlike any golf hole on earth, hit your tee shot from inside a cave behind a breathtaking waterfall to a downhill green. During construction, a mature mountain lion was spotted several times around the cave. Golfers take warning...

Hole 4 "Ozarks" · 157 Yards

This green is long with several shelves flowing up from front to back creating challenging putts. Follow the tracks in the sand ahead of you and drive your cart through the large bunker on the left.

Hole 5 "Valley View" · 77 Yards

Enjoy the sweeping views of Payne’s Valley from this tee box. Make sure to avoid the deep pot bunker on the left side of the green.

Hole 6 "Bunkers" · 94 Yards

This hole is framed by a gigantic bunker stretching the entire length from the tee box to the green with islands of grass spotted throughout. The green features a small shelf on the back left side creating a challenging pin location.

Hole 7 "Vista" · 97 Yards

This tee box offers golfers a grand view of the Ozark Mountains. The green has rolling hills and shelves, much like a Himalayan putting green.

Hole 8 "Falls" · 117 Yards

This hole features a long green front to back. It’s protected by a bunker short right and a large waterfall with rapids on the backside of the green.

Hole 9 "Frog's Leap" · 116 Yards

Golfers will have to carry a large pond on this tee shoot. Once you manage to avoid the water, greenside bunkers protect each side of the hole.

Hole 10 "Cliffhangers" · 102 Yards

As the name suggests, golfers tee off on a cliffside overlooking a large pond. The green is narrow from front to back with a large swell in the middle. If the pin is tucked in a difficult spot on the back right, golfers will be happy to make a three on this hole.

Hole 11 "Moon Rocks" · 72 Yards

This downhill hole features a difficult green that slopes away from the tee boxes with two large mounds on both sides of the green. After the hole, enjoy the unique rock features as you make your way through “Rattlesnake Ridge.”

Hole 12 "Boobie Traps" · 142 Yards

Hit your shot on a cliff's edge overlooking the 19th hole at Payne’s Valley. Along the way to the green, three “volcano” bunkers dot the approach.

Hole 13 "Forever View" · 136 Yards

From this tee box high on the hill, golfers can see forever. The large green has multiple shelves and ridges with a bunker placed directly in the middle of the green.

Hole 14 "Peninsula" · 155 Yards

This green sits on a peninsula heavily guarded by bunkers and water, leaving nowhere for golfers to miss safely. After the hole, take a break at The Crow’s Nest, the on-course comfort station featuring complimentary snacks including the signature Bison Dog.

Hole 15 "The Crossing" · 125 Yards

This hole tees off right next to the Crow’s Nest comfort station. The green is long with three shelves and severe slopes from back to front. On the way to the green, carts will traverse a low water crossing next to a running stream and waterfall.

Hole 16 "Grandview" · 90 Yards

Teeing off just above the 18th hole at Payne’s Valley, this hole features a long green from front to back with ridges protecting the putting surface. Favor the right side, as a ball that is too far right will bounce downhill back to the green.

Hole 17 "Homeward" · 91 Yards

Almost home. This hole features a large bunker on the left side and bowl on the front left portion of the green with several shelves located in different sections of the putting surface.

Hole 18 "Intimidator" · 76 Yards

Overlooking the 19th hole at Payne’s Valley, this scenic hole has teeth with a large bunker between the tee box and green and another bunker on the backside of the green. After the round, players will guide themselves up the Cliffhangers Trail back to the Mountain Top Clubhouse navigating through water features including a 200-foot waterfall, natural rock formations, and a drive-through cave.

The Future

Groundbreaking Vision

Originally designed to be the Payne’s Valley driving range, Johnny and JP Morris begin walking the land and daydreaming about a new par 3 course on the side of a limestone cliff. After just a month of planning, excavators start moving dirt.

Earth Moved, Dreams Shaped

The land begins to take shape and blasting exposes ancient limestone and enhances water features. Rough shapes of bunkers and greens appear.

Irrigation lines are laid. Greens are more defined, a pond is built, and cart paths start to be laid out.

Crafted by Stone & Stream

Crews pour concrete and set pumps for a one-of-a-kind water feature that breaks new ground in golf course design.

Meanwhile, hole #3’s cave is fortified, and sod begins to roll out on hole #15.

A course comes to life

The cart path now winds through a cave on hole #18. New holes are being sodded daily, and water has begun flowing through the custom-built features.

Eleven holes open for preview play in May, with the full 18 ready for the grand opening in early July.

A LEGACY SET IN STONE

Built to endure, Cliffhangers is more than a moment, it's a mark on the game.

Crafted with care and vision, this course will challenge and inspire generations to come.
